The Gateway

One of Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ships, Carnival Celebration, set sail in November 2022, the second Excel-class addition to their fleet. Inside Celebration are several themed zones, including The Gateway, a new addition that celebrates Carnival’s history and the excitement of “Embarking on a Journey.”

b+r worked with the Carnival team and Infinite Studios to design and produce media for twelve ten-foot-tall virtual LED windows and a nearly 100-foot-long LED ceiling that immerse the two decks of The Gateway in a variety of different scenes and environments. 

The focal point of our work in The Gateway is a ten-minute-long production in which the entire space transforms into a captivating time machine and takes guests on a sensational adventure through time and space. From an exotic, glowing alien cave far in the future to an encounter with a medieval dragon, the scenes come to life in vivid detail through a combination of 3D animation, theatrical lighting, music, and audio design to immerse guests in the story. b+r was responsible for all creative elements including the design, scripting, media production, and original scoring.  

Other media pieces we created for The Gateway showcase the adventure of travel, featuring different locations around the world, honor Carnival’s Golden Jubilee, and charm guests with a colorful Dr. Seuss fantasyland consisting of animated scenes from Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
